Resilience by Design: Navigating Change in the AEC Industry: Oomph on the Kynective Media podcast
Oomph CEO Johanna Hoffmann recently joined Kynective media as a guest on their podcast for a timely conversation about resilience — and what it really means for leaders and firms navigating change in the architecture, engineering, and construction industry.
Across the AEC sector, disruption is no longer episodic. Technology adoption, shifting client expectations, workforce pressures, and market uncertainty are reshaping how firms operate and compete. In this environment, resilience isn’t just about reacting to change — it shows up in how leaders think, how early they plan, and how clearly they understand their firm’s real strengths.
In our conversation, we talked about resilience across three interconnected layers: personal leadership, professional practice, and business decision-making. These layers can’t be separated. How leaders interpret uncertainty influences how firms plan, invest, and move — and whether disruption becomes a defensive exercise or a strategic advantage.
“Resilience isn’t about reacting faster. It’s about thinking more intentionally and acting with clarity.”
One theme that came through strongly is the importance of intentional action. Planning proactively and leaning into core expertise allows firms to navigate uncertainty with greater clarity and confidence. In practice, that means moving forward without waiting for perfect conditions, using tools like AI thoughtfully, and aligning strategy with execution rather than treating them as separate exercises.
The conversation reinforced something I see every day in my work with AEC firms: those that lead with intention — and are willing to adapt how they think, plan, and act — are far better positioned not only to manage uncertainty, but to uncover opportunity within it.
